The first act could have been its own standalone story, a disgraced Kamikaze pilot desperate for redemption , My beloved Lizard monster was basically shoehorned into a plot line. And CGI ruins everything.
Almost like the film noticed itself, the second and third act developed a respect for the Original material .
Japanese is a pretty language, there’s some water in it. Not quite as staccato as Chinese,
Uhmmm, that said,, yeah I liked it, I guess I like it.
I wanted to see cities smashed, wasn’t completely in the mood for WW2 guilt, and the movie had a soft hand about it, but geez, how unlucky if that were reality.
Nukes drop on Japan, then a Sea Monster tramples your cities,, my brain couldn’t quite buy in, the mix of historical realness and saltwater CGI apocalypse monster,,,I dunno,,,
Some really great sequences though, rumble in your seats moments,, I dunno,,, seemed like the film was trying to apologize for Hollywood previously ruining this particular IP.
“Hey my bad, we sold ya member berries”
Godzilla was around when you were a kid, I had a stuffed animal of him, we knew that,,,we pumped out a bunch of crap banking on nostalgia..
I forgive you movie.
After everything we’ve been through, I Guess I’m still down,,
I’ll watch the next one. Probably won’t watch that one again.
“Better”, I would say it’s a better step for the franchise though.
