Respect for the dead

I once had a job as a patient transport in a hospital, basically just shuffling people around in wheelchairs, off to get an X-ray,a CAT scan, an MRI, surgery, ultrasound, blah blah blah.

Once I had to carry someone’s amputated hand in a red biohazard bag, take it to the basement for disposal.

I caught a maintenance worker in a hallway, kneeling down, working on a plumbing line. I gently tapped him with the corner of the red bag..

“hey,,, you need a hand?”

He didn’t understand. He didn’t know what was in the bag.

“huh?”

That looks tough,do you need a hand?

I held out the bag for him to take but he just looked at it. Then it clicked.

(there’s a hand in that bag)

Yes there is and let’s laugh at the absurdity of it all. Some jobs allow for no yucks.

When it came to loading dead bodies into the freezer, well, it’s a real mother fucker, no matter how strong you are, a corpse just wiggles around, like it’s dead weight ( ha…) . Also the smell of shit is real and people absolutely shit themselves when they die.

Construction ain’t so bad 🤣

There was once a lady so fat, that it took my entire upper body strength just to lift her arm, there was no way she’d fit into the freezer.

So we rolled her into the basement morgue and threw a blanket over her, the funeral home would have to send the truck with the mini crane on it .

Think I held that job for 6 months, maybe less, can’t remember.
