I stole a bunch of money when I was 18.

Never got caught, rarely do I think about it, the situation was very unique.

It was a dead man, nobody ever knew that it was there , the wife had a side thing going and the life insurance paid out big. The two lovebirds revealed the affair after his death and instantly bought a house.

Blood clot, in the leg.

Her daughter was my girlfriend, 16-17, and they asked if I’d help pack out the old house..

This guy had stashes of guns, pills, porn, coins and cash. And I was completely alone, bagging up clothes and such.

We got along when he was alive, he had a side-piece too so the marriage was really just a business at that point.

Anyways,, packing out shit , I found a loose floorboard, little bank envelope with $4600, crisp 100 dollar bills.

The year 2000, I skipped town. The girl was fed up with my shit anyways,getting my hands on that money was path-changing. I had no car, no job or prospects….and I just took that shit. Took it, yank,,, mine now.

And it changed my life. I met my lifelong friends, met a girl, eventually learned the value of work.

That money bought my first apartment, some music gear, bunch of drugs, mildish level at that point.

Shit-bag thing to do. We all got a lot of those. I assume.

I can claim naive youth, and I really was fucking feral at that age, but still… a shit-bag thing to do…. not something to be proud of.

I ended up telling the girl ,maybe a decade later, her reaction surprised, she hated her dad and mom, she was glad I took it. Said she didn’t care at all,, ended up with 3 kids… time.. yep, does that thing.

I was already a shit-head before I took that money, already on a shit path, that single choice opened up an entirely new reality, entirely new chapters to life, Just because of that small choice.

Luck? Fate?

Something….

I dunno…

It seems like the only way it could have been. I can’t picture another route. Weird.

I now know the value of “do not steal”, Christians had that one right. No matter what, do not steal.
