Tracking vs looping

;

$content = [

I think looping has become an absolute detriment to my music time.

Even if it’s hidden by fancy names

“groove box”

It boils down to a word that you don’t want in your life.

PATTERNS.

Tracking,in my mind,it means pressing record and traveling the length of a song.

Which means “you need bones”.

Sure, you can punch in/punch out, add a little of this and remove a little of that,, but you’re still operating in the context of a “song”.

You have to serve the song. That’s day one bro.

Looping on the other hand….

There are people that are good at It. They can keep it from getting stale…

But for me ?

It’s like naval gazing.

I can build something huge. I can have all the colors of the rainbow and I can have a piece that really sings…

But it’s revolving.

It’s repeating, repetitive patterns.

You’re not thinking about the dynamics, you’re not considering the core values of music theory

(tension and release)

…..

You’re just stuck in this loop…

And you can make it big as fuck, and you can make it cool as fuck,,, but only for a handful of bars.

4,8,16…

It’s a huge deficiency, and it’s easy to get trapped there if you have no musical mates,  nobody to jam with 😢😢

You can do a lot on your own, but it’s not the same.

Not the same as having chemistry with another living human being.

Not the interaction between completely autonomous minds.

You lose some kind of organic nature, sitting there playing with yourself.

And don’t get me wrong, you can find beautiful places, and you can build these massive structures with angular developments and flowing throughlines..

But it’s not the same..

Being stuck in a loop…

Home-dude needs to return to tracking..

Needs to think of it a different way, because my way is shit.
